TEBC6 part 3

Work continues on the TEBC6 slug. I ended up buying a complete SD9 just to get a set of trucks. Its a good thing I did as I ruined of side frames when trying to cut it down. These frames seems solid, until you start cutting into them. I ended up cutting half the height of the frame off as well some off both ends to accommodate the different cab cab and nose arrangements. Cutting both ends also means I lost the screw holes, so these halves are now glued together rather than screwed. Obviously I removed all of the mechanism in the frame, as well as removing most of the gears in the trucks. I also added a “box” to the top of the cab. I have no idea what it is, it is not an air-conditioner. You can see it in this photo. https://www.flickr.com/photos/chuckzeiler/24545992938/ I still have some details to add (all weather windows, beacon, handrails, etc) but those are all post paint so I guess its time for the paint booth?

  1. Looking at some of the other TEBC6s, and later photos of this unit, I’m not yet convinced it isn’t some flavor of vapor style cab air conditioner, with the linked photo simply being overexposed and washing out details.

I do concede the photos are later than yours but the shapes are quite similar, and I can see the BNSF as having left the original equipment on the roof.

    1. Thanks for the comments! It did not look like a traditional AC unit so I assumed it was something else. I am not expert for sure! The one thing I would have liked to do is square off the cab. I couldnt come up with a good way to do it using existing cabs and I didnt want to tear into this one too bad so I chickened out and left it rounded. This is far from a perfect model but it will suffice in N scale. 🙂
